Art Show 2013

I've been hanging artwork nonstop for the last 2 days!

 

I don't have a count yet, but I'm taking guesses!  In fact, I am going to do a "closest to the exact number" drawing during the art show!! I don't know for a fact, but I think we will have more pieces on display at the show than we have students enrolled in the ENTIRE district!!

 

Wow and super wow!!

 

Here are a few pictures of the set up.

 

First is a close up of my art 1 student's flock birds perching on the display panels. The birds are a pretty basic, but exactly what I wanted!



Here is one view from the side of the auditorium. This shows the vast number of pieces!!

 

 We have work from pre-k through 12th grade.

Aren't the hands made by the 6th graders fun!

 

If you live in the 76401 zipcode or close by, the show is totally worth your time to see! We have drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, sculpture, photography and graphic design.  It's truly an all encompassing art show!

The show officially opens March 18th and runs to April 2nd. (yes, I posted this early as we had to prep the show prior to spring break!)

Packing Tape Sculpture

Just a glimpse into my classroom...

We are making packing tape sculptures.

Besides the horrible constant screech sound that the tape makes, it's a pretty fun and easy sculpture project. A little expensive, but worth it.

I can't wait to show you the thirty finished sculptures! It is going to be a really cool exhibit!

How to kick the Working Mom Blues

How to kick the Working Mom Blues...

 

1. Go to bootcamp and get your butt kicked for an hour.

 

2. Plan ahead and get your kids week under control.

 

3. Get caught up at work and take a minute to reflect on the good things that happen there.

 

And that's what I've done.

 

I'm still tired, but who isn't!! But I've kicked the blues to the curb again and am ready to face Friday.

Performing and Visual Arts Camp is Done!!

We had a great time and had 53 enrolled kids. Crazy good.

Everyone worked hard and we had the performance tonight for the parents and everyone did great.

In the picture below you can see the murals the kids painted. The full size sheets and coloring style drawings were absolutely the way to go! The painting was done quickly and easily with the Crayola Washable paint and since they painted in the heat, dried almost immediately.  I love the fact that the colors aren't consistent and the painting is obviously kid done.  Sure, I could have painted them, and they would have looked much more realistic and all that, but giving every kid at camp an opportunity to work of the murals was well worth the effort!

 

Maddie was a narrator for the Paul Bunyan show.  As expected, she did a great job. 

Lexi was Cowhand 2. She had 2 lines and was thrilled! 

Did you notice all of the brown vests.  That was a hit!  Every camper wore the vest that he/she made and decorated.  I don't think it will matter what show we do next year, it will include a vest :)

And there you have it.  I may post about the badges soon. Those were great too. Oh and the sweet boys and their prized memory books. That was worth the effort too.  Oh, and the puppets. Adorable. Every camper made one of those too.

Yes, I think we hit a grand slam with this camp!

We are already planning for next year... thinking of adding a photography section for the older kids....
